Water Hauling Planning Guide

Good planning keeps trucks moving and avoids standby time. Use this guide to prepare before you call a carrier.

1. Define the fluid

Freshwater, produced water, flowback, process water and non-hazardous liquid waste each have different handling and disposal requirements. Know what you're moving and have any analysis or profile available.

2. Estimate volume

Total gallons or barrels drive the number of loads. Use the Tank Volume and Water Hauling calculators to turn tank dimensions into an estimated load count. 1 barrel = 42 gallons.

3. Confirm source and destination

  • Pickup point and who controls loading.
  • Approved disposal facility or delivery point and their hours.
  • Any manifests or tickets required.

4. Check site access

  • Lease road condition and turnaround space.
  • Weight-restricted bridges or seasonal road postings.
  • Gate codes, check-in procedures and contractor-network requirements.

5. Schedule

Share start date, expected duration, operating hours and whether trucks are needed continuously or on call.
